Sandblasted signs are made by blasting exposed wood with a high pressure mixture of air and sand. Covering some areas with a rubber mask allows these areas to be raised. Creative borders accent the beauty of the sandblasted design. Reinforcing the back of larger signs ensures long term durability and maintains the flatness of the sign. Complete sealing of all edges is essential for long term durability. Sandblasted signs come in a variety of substrates normally from 1-1/2"-2" thick. In the past, many signs were blasted from redwood but, due to problems of obtaining clear grain redwood, more and more signs are being blasted from cedar, synthetic foam or other materials.
